The SunSun HBL-501 is a compact hang-on-back (HOB) filter designed for nano and small aquariums. It offers quiet performance, easy installation, and effective 3-stage filtration, making it ideal for beginners and planted/shrimp setups.

🧱 Filter Media Setup (Recommended Order)

  1. Sponge (mechanical + basic biological)

  2. Activated carbon (chemical filtration, optional)

  3. Ceramic rings / bio-balls (boost biological filtration)

  4. Fine filter wool (optional – for crystal clear water)

👉 For shrimp tanks, add a sponge pre-filter on the intake.

🔧 How to Install

  1. Hang the filter on the aquarium wall.

  2. Attach the inlet pipe and adjust length to water level.

  3. Fill the filter chamber with some tank water to help priming.

  4. Plug in and switch ON – water will start circulating.

  5. Adjust flow rate to suit your fish/tank setup.

🧼 Maintenance

  • Rinse sponge every 2 weeks in tank water.

  • Replace activated carbon every 3–4 weeks if used.

  • Clean bio-media gently when clogged (never replace all at once).

  • Check inlet pipe for blockages and oil film.
